just IMAGINE if… is an annual international social enterprise and innovation competition supporting ideas that tackle our global challenges with over £100,000 worth of university research and business support. It exists to drive social, economic and environmental change in the world through helping small ideas become big realities. If you have an idea to address one of the global challenges,
just IMAGINE if…everyone had healthy food to eat every day.
just IMAGINE if…there was a safe home for everyone to sleep in every night.
just IMAGINE if…everyone had the opportunity to receive as much education as they wanted.
just IMAGINE if… is an international innovation competition, open to anyone across the globe who has a business idea which tackles at least one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The 17 goals include clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, and gender equality.
just IMAGINE if… 2020, hosted by Durham University and its founder Paul Lindley, launched on 25th November 2019 at Durham University Business School. The competition is open until February 2nd, after which ten finalists will be chosen. The ten finalists will receive support from One Young World and assigned counsellors, to prepare their pitches for the final at Durham University on 30th March 2020.
The winner of just IMAGINE if… 2020 will be announced at the Gala Dinner at Durham Castle on the evening of 30th March 2020.
The winner of just IMAGINE if…2020 will receive research and business support from Durham University, and from sponsors, together worth over £100,000.
The main prize for just IMAGINE if…2020 is a package of research and Business School support from Durham University valued at £70,000.
All ten finalists will spend two days at Durham University Business School (31st March-1st April 2020) attending a range of workshops, run by and working with Business School academics and expert businesspeople. This will include the application of the Business Model Canvas concept in full, to their business idea and an Innovation seminar, run by CPI, the Centre for Process Innovation.
A 12-month package of support to the winner will be provided by Durham University Business School.
All ten finalists will also receive:
Expert support in public speaking from One Young World in order to prepare for the delivery of their pitch at the just IMAGINE if…2020 final
An invitation to attend a half-day workshop with the award-winning marketing team at Ella’s Kitchen – the UK’s number one baby food brand – to experience how to create brand love and trust in a unique and ownable way (likely date, subject to change: 3rd April 2020)
A 1-hour Investor Pitch Deck review with Corporate Finance Experts at YF Funding, and £100 credit towards a readymade business template from Young Foodies

The competition entries (remember to submit both a video AND a written document!) will be judged by a panel of judges based on the following criteria:
Demonstrating a clear vision of how the business idea will work and its viability.
A clear explanation as to the sustainability and scalability of the business idea.
Definition of which of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals the idea aims to tackle and how.
The impact that winning the research prize will make on your ability to develop your business idea.
10 finalists will be selected and assigned a counsellor(s) to help them prepare for the final pitch, along with support from One Young World.
The final will consist of a pitch competition where each finalist (or 1 member of each finalist) will be invited to give a presentation in person lasting approximately 10 minutes, pitching their idea before a live invited audience at the just IMAGINE if… event on 30th March 2020.
The top 3 finalists of just IMAGINE if… 2020 will be selected by a vote of the audience attending the event, following completion of all finalist pitches.
The ultimate winner will then be chosen by a judging panel. The winning applicant will be announced at the gala dinner on the evening of 30th March 2020.
