YALI RLC NG Alumni commissions free online medical support
A group of young African leaders under the umbrella of Young African Leaders Initiative, YALI, Nigeria Alumni chapter, has commissioned an online medical support system tagged "YALI First Aid" to cushion the effort of the ravaging coronavirus.
The YALI (RLC) Nigeria alumni association launched the project on 30th April, 2020, to cater for the well-being of the general public and to provide online based first aid. According to her Speaker Bureau Chair, Temitayo Olatunde, professional medical doctors and pharmacists who are members of the association have volunteered to offer free medical counselling to people who are having ailments that are unrelated to Covid-19. He said, "Covid-19 pandemic has stopped many people from going to hospitals. We are in a situation where doctors are scared to meet patients physically. In fact, both patients and doctors are avoiding each other. No one wants to have contact with covid-19 patient because they are treated in hospitals too. The reality on ground makes people suffer from minor illnesses such as malaria, catarrh, coughs, fever among others" He added, apart from the fear of contracting Covid-19 while seeking for medical support at the hospital, some people cannot afford to pay doctors for consultation due to this lockdown. "In response to this and before things get out of hand, we designed the online medical support system where we have professional doctors and pharmacists who have volunteered to attend to people by giving them medical counselling. "The consultation would be done through whatsapp and the phone numbers that will link people with the doctors are available. The medical counselling is for free. Get referred to the doctors through 08109323166, 08169876433, 08133515605, 07031511866, 08144039260. The online medical support system will be active until we overcome the deadly virus" he added. YALI was established by the Former President of United States of America, Barack Obama in 2010 to support an emerging generation of African leaders as they work to drive economic growth, enhance democratic governance, and strengthen the civil society structures that will help the continent grow and prosper.
